Understanding the Condition
A cataract is clouding of the natural crystalline lens inside the eye, causing progressive blurring, glare, and colour distortion. Cataract surgery removes this cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL), restoring vision clarity.
Modern phacoemulsification is a blade-free, stitch-free day procedure taking 15–20 minutes per eye. Patients typically notice dramatic vision improvement within 24–48 hours. Femtosecond laser-assisted surgery offers even greater precision for complex cases and premium lens implantation.

Step by Step
Detailed biometry, corneal mapping, and vision test. Your Care Partner explains IOL (lens) options and recommends based on lifestyle and budget.
Eye drops started 3 days before surgery. Fasting not required. Arrange a companion for transport home after the procedure.
Phacoemulsification: ultrasound dissolves the cloudy lens, which is removed through a tiny 2.2mm incision. New IOL is folded and implanted.
Protective eye shield applied. Discharged within 2–3 hours. Eye drops regimen started immediately.
Review at Day 1, Week 1, and Week 4. Vision typically stabilises within 1 week. Care Partner coordinates all follow-up appointments.
What to Expect
Day 1
Wear protective shield. Avoid rubbing eyes. Use prescribed eye drops every 4 hours.
Day 2–3
Review with surgeon. Vision notably improved. Continue eye drops and avoid dust, smoke.
Week 1
Reading, TV, and light work resumed. Avoid swimming and strenuous activity.
Week 4
Final vision assessment. Glasses prescription updated if needed. Eye drops typically stopped.
